Talk on Ipswich Wet Dock February 2011

After the business of the 111th annual general meeting of Ipswich Engineering Society had concluded there followed a talk by Jonathan Hudson about Ipswich wet dock. Jonathan is a Civil Engineer working locally; his work has included preservation work on Ipswich wet dock.

The first part of the talk covered the history of the wet dock. The original course of the river Orwell and the area of the wet dock prior to its construction, the construction of the wet dock itself in the early 1800s and the history of the dock up to present day.

The second part of the talk was concerned with the preservation of the wet dock and detailed how and why various remedial work has been carried out including the work that Jonathan himself has been directly involved with.
