The truth about Wind Farms Tuesday 12th February 2013

This year the 2013 AGM was combined with the Presidents Evening, having conducted the Societies official business the large turnout was then treated to a talk by our President Malcolm van den Bergh on the topic of The truth about wind farms. This was an interactive talk with many points being raised by the members in response to the topics being tabled by Malcolm. Malcolm began the talk with a look at the history of wind generators, taking us back as far as 1887 and the wind electricity generator built by James Blyth. Malcolm talked us through the efficiency of wind turbines and the misuse of the term to really describe availability, effects of blade size and common design problems. There was look at the anti-wind turbine arguments often tabled and their validity before rounding off with a general fact and fiction discussion about wind turbines
